Lay Low

We’re going down,
There’s no way out.
Better not catch
What’s going ‘round,
I can see the way
It’s going down.
It’s all the same anyway.
We’re going down,
All the way.
Hey okay,
Another doomsday.
Break your mind and fly away.
Lay low,
And hide away
In the empty hole
Inside my brain.
And it’s not the same
As so many men.
And it broke again,
And it never ends.
It’s all the same anyway
We’re going down,
All the way.
Hey okay,
Another doomsday.
Break your mind and fly away.

The Shadow
06:14
|
|

Every other evening,
With a creaking hollow whisper,
There’s a voice outside my window,
With a shadow looking in.
At first glance seems quite jagged,
With the focus slowly shifting,
And a curve now forms the shoulder
Of a shadow looking in.
Like a bell sounding sweetly,
Like a song of spirits rising on the hill,
Like a chime of Sunday morning,
Sings the song.
The window slowly opens,
And I greet the lonely figure,
With a non-transparent handshake,
And my memory is gone.
My memory is gone.
I remember lying quietly
There on my patchwork blanket,
When the lights began to flicker
And my head began to fill.
That then without all reason
There would enter through my window,
A speaking, slinking shadow
As I breathe there laying still.
So I call out to the shadow,
Crying, "What is it you are seeking?"
As they had most clearly entered,
With two arms and head outlined.
But the figure slowly shifting
Merely hovers there in silence.
The song now hushed to nothing,
Though it lingers in my mind.
Lingers in my mind.
My memory is gone.
My memory is gone.
My memory is gone.
My memory is gone.
Gone, gone.
Gone, gone.

I Say No
03:11
|
|
||
Well I got fifteen bucks,
And you might say that that ain’t much,
But I say “Hell, I guarantee it is.”
Cause I ain’t got far to go
And my friends all hate me
So I wish them well,
and rubber-trampin’ it.
Petite LeRoi,
You and me know where to be,
And I hate their smiling, ignorant ways.
So chug along,
Here’s hoping there ain’t air in them lines.
And I say no.
I know, I know, I know, no, no.
I ain’t got far to go.
And I say no.
I know, I know, I know, no, no.
Won’t say I told you so.
I guess I got no love to give,
and it’s your life, so go and live it,
but not with me,
So you best move aside.
They say the way that I compare
To other folks it just ain’t fair,
But I just do
What it takes to stay alive.
Best left alone,
So move along and let me be.
I’ve tried and tried
Most every other way.
So chug along,
Here’s hoping there ain’t air in them lines.
And I say no.
I know, I know. I know, no, no.
I ain’t got far to go.
And I say no.
I know, I know. I know, no, no.
Won’t say I told you so.
And I say no.
I say no.

I Feel Fine
04:20
|

You’re never not the one to blame.
It’s just another selfish game,
And another name written there
On the dotted line.
It’s such a lonely way to live,
The guy has gotta lot to give,
But when you’re laying there all alone,
Lagging behind.
You’re never not rock and roll.
You really gotta take it slow,
And the less you know,
The better you’ll find.
And when I hold your hand in mine,
That morning light shines,
And you’re never not going away
with your heart on the line.
And I feel fine.
And I take what’s mine
With my heart on the line.
You’re just another broken heart
At the dawn of a new start,
And at the end when you’re looking back,
you never made a dime.
And I feel fine.
And I take what’s mine.
With my heart on the line.
You’re never not the one to blame.
It’s just another selfish game,
And another name written there
On the dotted line.
It’s such a lonely way to live,
The guy has gotta lot to give,
But when you’re laying there all alone,
Lagging behind.
You’re just another broken heart
At the dawn of a new start,
And at the end when you’re looking back,
you never made a dime.
And I feel fine.

Always in the Morning
08:04
|
|
||
Tamped down,
To briefly quell
This reeking lump of grief
Forever lodged between
My breath and my heart.
With false starts
and ever bleeding.
This time it's right.
It will be all right.
In the morning light.
I’m finding my way
In the morning.
Always in the morning
With the morning light.
As night falls,
I roll right through
Into the grim.
And there, that's him.
That old black dog
Comes running back again,
Hungry for flesh.
But with adequate rest,
And the new morning light
All will refresh.
It's always better in the morning.
Oh ebon hound,
As you come traipsing through,
I am forever bound
To you.
And oh, please do,
My not unwelcome friend.
With feverfew,
And garlands of woven barley.
These night lights,
Can't keep me breathing in the morning.
Not in the morning light.
To those who stick it through,
And make it to,
The shining light of the morning.
Always in the morning.
In the morning light.
Always in the morning.
